How much does a website cost a month? The plan is the small part.
You want a website that brings in work: bookings, quote requests, the odd question at night. Every builder shows you a monthly price. None of them shows you who keeps it right.
The short answer
A builder plan runs CA$21 to CA$46 a month on Squarespace's yearly plans1, plus a .ca domain at $10 to $20 a year2.
- A site built for you typically costs $10,000 to $30,000 up front for BDC's clients3.
- Then it's $20 to $60 a month to host3.
- The bigger monthly cost is the person who keeps it current.
- Two hours a week at a Calgary web designer's median wage is about $304 a month4.
- We don't publish our own price, because every system we build is scoped to the business it runs.
Squarespace shows Canadian dollars. Wix showed us US dollars.
Prices below are as each builder showed them on 27 October 2026, before tax1,5.
| Plan | Paid yearly, per month |
|---|---|
| Squarespace Basic | CA$211 |
| Squarespace Core | CA$321 |
| Squarespace Plus | CA$461 |
| Wix Light | US$17.77, reference price5 |
| Wix Core | US$29.77, reference price5 |
| Wix Business | US$39.77, reference price5 |
Paying Squarespace month to month costs more: CA$30, CA$45 and CA$59 for the same three plans1.
A .ca domain is cheap, until the second year
CIRA, which runs .ca, says a .ca domain typically costs $10 to $20 a year.
The detail
You buy it from a registrar, not from CIRA, and some registrars price the first year low and the second year higher2.
Whatever you pay, register it in your business's name, on an account whose email you read.
The detail
The domain is the address for your website and usually your email too.
Built for you: a bigger cheque up front, a small hosting bill after
BDC says most of its clients pay $10,000 to $30,000 to build a website, with outliers at $60,000 to $100,0003.
The detail
They pay $20 to $60 a month for hosting, depending on traffic3.
That buys design and code made for you, which matters once the site takes bookings, quotes or payments, not only looks good.
The line no pricing page shows: the hours to keep it right
Hours change, prices change, photos go stale, a form stops sending. Someone has to notice and fix it the same day.
The detail
Job Bank puts the median wage for a web designer in the Calgary Region at $35.09 an hour; the range runs from $22.36 to $56.774. Those are employee wages, not agency rates.
Example
Two hours a week of a web designer's time at the Calgary median: 2 × 52 × $35.09 = $3,649.36 a year, or about $304 a month4.
The detail
Squarespace Core on a yearly plan is CA$32 a month1. $304 ÷ $32 = 9.5, so the hours cost more than nine times the plan, before CPP and EI. If those hours are yours, they come out of your evenings instead.
When a builder plan is the right buy
You're starting out, the site is a few pages, and you like doing it yourself.
Buy a builder plan. It costs the least to start, and you can move up later.
It has to take bookings, quotes or payments, and nobody has the evenings to keep it right.
Count the hours, not just the plan. That's when having it built and kept current earns its cost.
Someone else already built or hosts it for you.
Before anything else, check that the domain and the account are in your business's name.
Where we fit
We don't publish a price, because every system we build is scoped to the business it runs, and the website is only one part of it.
The detail
We build it, run it in your name, and answer for it. If a builder plan would serve you better, we'll tell you.
