A review tool earns its monthly fee when your reviews outgrow one profile.

You get a few Google reviews a month and answer them from your phone. Now a review app wants a monthly fee, and you can't see what it would add.

Beside a balance scale, Otto steadies a stack of plain boxes on one pan against a single card with an orange star on the other.

The short answer

Your Google Business Profile is free, 1 and it gives you a review link to send, 2 an alert when a review comes in 3 and a reply box. 4

  • If you invoice in Jobber, it can send the ask after a completed job or a paid invoice. 5
  • For one location where Google is the review site that counts, that's enough.
  • Pay for a dedicated tool when the work outgrows one profile.
  • That means several locations, reviews on many sites, replies someone approves, or a monthly report.
  • NiceJob starts at US$75 a month; 6 Birdeye and Podium show no price. 7 8

Free, inside your invoicing app, or a tool of its own

  • Google's own tools, if you're one location and Google is where customers read about you.

Owners and managers on the profile can both respond to reviews, 9 so a second person answering doesn't need a paid tool.

    The detail

Switch on the Customer activity alert for new reviews. 3 The link and how to ask are on getting and answering Google reviews.

  • The app you invoice from, if the ask is the part that keeps getting forgotten.

Jobber says it can send review requests automatically after a completed job or a paid invoice, and draft your replies. 5

    The detail

Its pricing page marks Reviews as an add-on with no price shown, so check it's in your plan. 10

  • NiceJob, if you want the asking automated and you invoice somewhere it connects to.

It names Jobber, QuickBooks, Housecall Pro and Square, and says reviews start coming in on their own once you connect. 11

    The detail

Starter, US$75 a month, sends text and email review requests; Pro, US$125, adds AI-written replies. No contract. 6

  • GatherUp or Grade.us, if your reviews land on many sites or you're adding locations.

GatherUp watches reviews across 100+ sites and includes a full reporting suite. 12

    The detail

    Both list US$99 a month for one location, or US$60 a location on multi-location plans. 12 13 Grade.us says it's designed for agencies. 14

  • Birdeye or Podium, if you run many locations and can make room for a sales call.

Birdeye gives every location one reputation score, and its reply agent posts on its own or holds replies for your approval. 15

    The detail

Podium sends review invites by text and pulls your review sites into one inbox. 16 Neither pricing page shows a price. 7 8

Four reasons to pay, and what Google covers before you do

Google's free profile against a paid tool, from each one's own pages, read 30 October 2026
When you haveGoogle, freeWhat a paid tool adds
Several locations 12 15 17At 10 or more, you can add, verify and manage them in bulk, and share them through business groupsOne view of every location: Birdeye scores each one; GatherUp charges US$60 a location a month
Reviews on more than Google 4 12 16The reply box sits on your Google profile, for the reviews posted thereGatherUp watches 100+ sites; Podium gathers your review sites into one inbox
A few people answering 5 6 9 15Managers can respond to reviews; only owners add or remove peopleA reply held for approval before it posts, or replies written for you
A monthly report 15 16 18Calls, messages, bookings, directions, website clicks, searches and views, as a spreadsheet; reviews aren't on the listRatings, review counts and responses tracked over time; total reviews with attribution

If none of the four describes you, the fee buys the asking.

The detail

That's worth it only when the asking isn't happening and the app you invoice from can't do it.

A year at one location, and at three

Example

  • Your Cleaning Co., one location, invoicing in QuickBooks: NiceJob Starter is US$75 × 12 = US$900 a year, and Pro is US$125 × 12 = US$1,500. 6
  • Converted at 1.3985, the Bank of Canada's rate for 29 October 2026, 19 that's CA$1,258.65 or CA$2,097.75.
The detail

Your Landscaping Co., three locations: GatherUp's multi-location plan is 3 × US$60 × 12 = US$2,160, billed annually, 12 or CA$3,020.76 converted the same way. The Google profile stays free at either size. 1 Billed in US dollars, the Canadian cost shifts with the exchange rate.

Set the fee against the asks it sends that you'd otherwise forget.

The detail

If you already ask after every job, the fee mostly buys a dashboard.

Annual commitments, refunds, and what stays with you

  • GatherUp's annual plans run a full year, paid up front or monthly; you can add locations mid-term but not remove them. Month-to-month plans allow both. 12
  • Grade.us says it doesn't offer refunds. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for. 13
  • NiceJob says no contracts and cancel anytime, with billing starting after a 14-day free trial. 6
  • Birdeye's pricing page mentions one contract but not its length. 7
  • GatherUp and Grade.us each offer 14 days free with no card. 12 13
  • Replies you post appear publicly under the reviews on your Google profile, 4 not inside the tool that sent them.

Where we fit

In the one app your business runs on, the review request after a finished job goes out on its own, inside your rules.

The detail

It comes with Your brand’s “Kept current and well reviewed”.
